Mental Health

Meditation by the Beach

Divorce is one of life's most challenging transitions. Understanding your emotions and taking care of your mental health is the first step toward rebuilding.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR EMOTIONS

The Emotional Stages of Divorce

Emotions during divorce mirror the stages of loss. There is no "right" way to feel—these stages are not linear, and you may revisit them multiple times.

Denial & Shock

It's normal to feel numb or disbelieve what's happening. Your mind is protecting you while you process the reality.

Anger & Resentment

Frustration toward your ex, yourself, or the situation is a natural response. Acknowledge it without letting it define you.

Bargaining & Guilt

Replaying "what if" scenarios is common. Release the need to fix the past and allow yourself to grieve.

Depression,  Sadness & Anxiety

Deep sadness about the loss of your relationship and future plans is valid. Anxiety about the uncertainly of the future is common. Lean on your support system during this difficult time.

Acceptance & Growth

Gradually, you'll find peace with your new reality. This stage brings clarity, self-discovery, and hope for the future.

TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF

Self Care and Divorce

These practices can help you navigate the healing process with greater resilience.

Practice Mindfulness and Relaxation

Daily meditation, even 5 minutes, can reduce anxiety and bring clarity during emotional turmoil. Spend time doing things that relax you. Some examples include reading, listening to music, massage, crafting or playing a game.

Build a Support Network

Connecting with friends, family, or a support group can help you through this difficult time. Speaking with others who have been through a divorce is extremely helpful.

Seek Professional Help

A therapist specializing in divorce can provide tools and coping strategies tailored to your needs.

Move Your Body

Exercise releases endorphins and helps process stress. It's important to stay healthy and active during the divorce process. Walking, running, weightlifting, yoga, playing a sport, dancing or going to the gym are great ways to exercise.

Establish New Routines

Creating structure gives you a sense of stability and control during an unpredictable time. Maintaining daily routines — work, exercise, family schedules, healthy meals, and quality sleep are important.

Keep a Journal

Writing helps you externalize emotions, track your progress, and gain perspective over time.
